Canonization of Fr. Michael McGivney

In conjunction with Council 852's Corporate Communion weekend, The Knights of Columbus Assembly 3439 will be distributing Prayer Cards for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney during the weekend masses January28-29. As the Founder of the Knights of Columbus, Father Michael J. McGivney, was instrumental in the Connecticut state legislature officially chartering the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society in March1882, after starting out with a handful of parish men in the church basement. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism, and is worldwide, with some 1.9 million members, still living out his vision for the Order.

Father McGivney is a candidate for sainthood, which was opened in 1997, and he was declared a Venerable Servant of God by Pope Benedict XVI in March 2008, in recognition of his life of heroic virtue. We are waiting for 1 Vatican-approved miracle through his intercession which is needed for beatification, and another miracle for canonization. He is heralded as an Apostle to the Young, Protector of Christian Family Life and Founder of the Knights of Columbus. As his cause advances, Knights of Columbus families and Catholics seek his intercession, and a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.
Please place this prayer card in a special place, readily accessible, so your prayers can help in the timely canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney. Thank you.
